All of us love our nails to be on point, whether it’s a seasonal color, holiday color, your favorite color, or just buffed natural.

We believe in keeping our minds and bodies healthy, and what we put on our nails, affects our health. The reason that HawgWilde developed a 7 Free product, is so that we, as well as our clients, don’t consume anymore unnecessary chemicals into our bodies. When we leave paints, gels and acrylics on our nails for weeks, months, even years, the chemicals from those products absorb into our systems. But today we are talking about Gels!

Reasons Why You Should NOT Gel Your Nails

Gel manicures can weaken your nails by dehydrating them, which leads to thinning of the nail plate.  The UV lighting has been linked to causing skin damage and worse… skin cancer.  Whether it’s a little or a lot, why increase the odds?  Protect yourself, just DON’T DO IT.

I’m a Picker, You’re a Picker, Too!

We have all experienced that point where our gel mani’s begin peeling and lifting, usually after spending time with its worst enemy… Water!  Something we all need to increase our intake of, ironically. As peeling and lifting begin, water can seep into the nail, which can harbor bacteria and potentially cause fungus.

Avoiding the Toxic Trio

Another reason to fall in love with a 7 free nail paint, you avoid the “toxic trio” carcinogens that are present in many polishes:  Formaldehyde, toluene, and dibutyle phthalate (DBP) which have been found to cause inflammation along with many other adverse side effects like disturbing a perfectly healthy endocrine system.

Say “goodbye” to long baths, hot showers and relaxing Jacuzzis, as these long soaks can cause lifting.  Try your best to avoid these or keep them to a minimum and always wear rubber gloves when you do the dishes! Wearing rubber gloves when doing dishes will also protect your hands from harsh detergents and hot water, as well as prolonging your natural manicure. Which is part to do with why we do gels, we want our beautifully manicured nails to last as long as they can.

Take It OFF Take It ALL Off!

Gel polishes require soaking your nails in acetone wrapped in foil!!! The result is dried out and brittle post-gel nails.  Plus, once the foils come off, manicurists may scrape the nail plate with a file, which can result in even more trauma to the nailbed. This soaking period allows our bodies to absorb the acetone, as well as begin breaking down the aluminum and that too gets absorbed through our nail beds. Heavy metal toxicity is another topic for another day.

Can I Get a Little Lovin’

It is very important that the surrounding skin and cuticle, as well as the nail plate itself, be rehydrated which is why we recommend HawgWilde’s cuticle oil, or simply use organic pure coconut oil once you return home.  Drench your hands and feet with coconut oil and sleep wearing cotton socks on your hands and feet to expedite the moisture therapy retention, as your skin works twice as hard while you’re sleeping to regenerate cells.

I THINK WE NEED SOME SPACE

Taking a break is always good, too, allowing your nails to rehydrate and repair.

You know the importance of drinking plenty of H2O for your health – and the same rules apply when it comes to nail health.  Hydrating your nails as much as possible in between salon visits is very important to healthy nails, skin and cuticles.
